grandopening

Hello!
We are very excited to announce the Grand Opening of Spool of Thread Sewing Lounge! On Saturday, June 5th, we are hosting our Grand Opening party with treats and giveaways throughout the day!

We are also very excited to release our first month of sewing classes! In June’s schedule, you can sew an entire summer outfit, including Amy Butler’s Barcelona Skirt and Frenchy Bag, and Colette Patterns’ Sencha Blouse! Plus, if you are looking for a great, handmade Father’s Day present, we’ve put together a Men’s Tie class! If you’re new to sewing, take our Sewing Machine 101 class to learn the ins and outs of a sewing machine and make a cute tote bag! Call 604-879-3031 today to reserve your seat in a class!

Did you know you can Drop-in + Sew at Spool of Thread whenever there isn’t a class scheduled? Spool of Thread is Vancouver’s sew and craft by the hour space. We have 6 awesome Janome sewing machines, a large industrial cutting table and a number of other tools for you to rent by the hour.

Sneak Peek

We wanted to pop in and give you a sneak peek of some of the fabric that we unpacked recently onto the Spool of Thread shelves. These were the very first bolts into the shop!

Our to-do lists are nearly complete, and we’ll be back soon to give a tour of our store and highlight some of the other fabric you’ll find at Spool of Thread.

Hello, March!

5 Mar

Wow! February went by in a flash! We spent much of the month working on renovations. We managed to cross quite a few items off our to-do list and of course, added a few new projects to boot.

The weather is glorious right now in Vancouver. We’ve had our front windows papered over since we first leased our space and on Wednesday we decided, enough is enough, we must see light! We took the paper down and put up some curtains so we can keep the inside of our store a bit of surprise and let some of the natural light in.

I spent the afternoon cutting out paper letters and with a little tape and baker’s twine, we strung up our shop’s name and website.

The entire project was completed under the close supervision of our dog, Sugar.

It looks like it is time to get back to that to-do list! We hope you have a great weekend!

First day

28 Jan

Thank you all for your comments on our introduction! I’m speaking for Henry here, but I think one of things that excites us is the opportunity to work with such great people, crafters!

If you saw Henry’s tweet this morning on Spool of Thread’s twitter account, you’ll know that the Spool of Thread team is doing lots and lots and lots of renovations to our space. We have been working on things since  the beginning of December when we first got our keys. Nearly 2 months now!

Here are some photos from the very first day we had the keys. The store is very long and skinny, only about 15 feet wide. I’ve learned a number of times that your cell phone needs to stay in your pocket. There is no way you can race from one end of the store to the other in time to answer it!

We have nice 13 foot tall ceilings throughout the entire space. This area will be the cash counter, window display and retail portion (patterns and fabric and bears, oh my!).

And the winter sun shines through our windows perfectly.

Sadly, we decided to get rid of the orange kitchen.

There are a few more pre-renovation photos over at our flickr account.
