Show Us Your Pins!

4 May

The DIY table at Got Craft was a smashing success. Over 300 crafty people made their way to the stage to create some of the loveliest pins we’ve ever seen. For the mere $2 cost of admission to the show, there were smiling faces abound at every corner of the DIY table.

We are super excited that so many people came out specifically to see us. We promise to publish a class list as soon as we can. Did you know that people were sighted sporting our pins all over Vancouver, including at other craft shows! Pretty cool, huh?

We noticed a lot of you were snapping pictures whilst making. So, we thought why not post some pictures of your pins on our blog. Then we thought, why not go a step further and create a contest. Then we thought with what ever thought-power we had left, why not have people vote on their favourite pin to make it completely democratic.

Snap a picture of your pin and send us a photo! You can email us the photo, file or link. We even have a flickr group if you’d prefer to post it there! Deadline for photo-submissions is Friday, May 7th. Lili and I will go through and pick our five favourites and post it on blog on Monday, May 10th along with the special voting doo-dad.

What’s the prize you ask? A free hour in our sewing lounge! That’s right, we’ll give you a free hour on one of our state of the art sewing machines where you can keep that pinwheel pin makin’ feelin’ alive!

Thanks again to everyone for coming out to meet us and showing us how talented each and every one of you are. Lets see those pinwheels!

DIY table at Got Craft

pinwheel-500

There are quite a few amazing craft events happening around Vancouver this weekend, but we  are most excited about Got Craft? on Sunday!

Why, you ask? We are hosting a Do-It-Yourself table with a free project for visitors to the show! Henry and I will be up on the stage with all the supplies and instruction needed for you to make your own springy Pinwheel Pin!

I made the first Pinwheel a few weeks back when I was wishing for brighter, sunshine-filled days. Now that spring is here, we will have a variety of colors and a number of fabrics straight from bolts on the Spool of Thread shelves.

Plus, there are over 55 vendors selling at Got Craft?! It is a great chance to shop and meet some of the best of Vancouver’s makers.

When you’re at the show on Sunday, be sure to stop by Spool of Thread (up on the stage!) and say hello!

an introduction of sorts

24 Jan

We have dropped a few hints along the way on our twitter accounts and talking to friends at craft shows, but now that we have our retail space we are ready to share the news! We are opening Vancouver, B.C’s first Sewing Lounge, Spool of Thread!

What is a Sewing Lounge, you ask?

Spool of Thread is a modern twist on making. Our retail store will provide the tools and the space you need to create your next sewing project. We will also have a wide selection of unique and hard to find fabrics.

Opening in Spring 2010, our store will have sewing machines available for pay-by-the-hour rental during our store hours. Along with the sewing machines, sewers will have access to large cutting tables, irons, dress forms and other sewing accessories.

The store’s Sewing Lounge will also be used for sewing workshops and classes with instruction from crafters and sewing experts.

Who are you guys?

Hello, we’re Lili and Henry. You’ve probably seen us around town before. On the weekends we can usually be found at the farmer’s market or at a local craft fair. When it’s nice out, we head to the seawall to take our little pooch Sugar for a walk. We enjoy finding hidden gems at thrift shops and find excuses to go thrifting throughout the Lower Mainland. Henry loves the color orange and Lili will be shocked if Spool of Thread ends up with a couch that isn’t orange.

We would love to meet you too. Sign up for our newsletter and we’ll send you an invitation to our grand opening party. We’d love it if you say hi.
