2010 in Review

19 Jan

As busy shop owners, it’s not very often that we take time to reflect on our victories. This post by our The Boss of You friends sparked all sorts of misty eyed thoughts about you guys, the people Henry and I work with every day.

2010 proved to be quite amazing for us. On the first day of 2010, we spent the day on our hands and knees removing layers and layers of flooring from our concrete floors. We tell our renovation tale from time to time during sewing classes. It is a harrowing one, filled with lots of dry wall mud and many layers of vinyl flooring.

What a difference a year has made. This January 1st, we planned the addition of 14 new cubes for the shop. One New Years was clearly a bit more fun than the other.

We had our official grand opening on June 5th, 2010. Just yesterday, a customer was in our shop with ideas for our 1 year anniversary party. Even though it feels like Spool of Thread is just getting started, our 1 year anniversary is a mere 4 months away. We can’t believe it.

We haven’t added it up, but since June 5th we’ve helped a whole bunch of you learn to sew and been featured in quite a few newspapers and blogs. We’ve had bolts of fabric and sewing patterns come and go, all of which we are proud to bring to Vancouver sewers. We’ve had lots of you excitedly bring back your finished sewing project, just to show us. And we love it.

While 2010 was a blast, Henry + I are really excited about what 2011 has in store. We want to thank you all for being awesome over the last year, friends + family, new and old.

Thank you so much for bringing the “fun” into sewing. You can’t believe how long I kept peering into the windows and asking everyone if they knew when you were opening. I heard of the unforeseen delays and had a panic attack that you may never have opened. It has been quite the ride and you two are the sweetest store owners I know. You have given us all life long skills. Now let me at all that fabric!!! OK…I will wait until I take some more awesome classes.

Yes! There will be more posts about the new fabric soon. We’re kinda bad about blogging about it, but we get new fabric nearly every week.
