Moving on Up (North)

iglubu and craftiness were put on the back burner lately. The last couple of months have been really crazy and un-rooting for me (I hope you enjoy my talent for making up new words!) As you know, after graduation, I moved back into my parent's house in Omaha from Chicago. Living in Omaha treated me quite well. I started to diet, and lost a bunch of weight. I also got moving on iglubu - created some new designs and worked on freshening up some of the navigation and content on the website. But I really didn't get as much done as I would have liked. I did manage to fix some problems of the last post. I am signed up to do a SaleThursday with SheFinds and I am also planning on advertising in the last two issues of BUST for the year. It's crazy - here it is the middle of July, and I am already thinking about Christmas. I am both very excited about advertising, and a bit nervous. Last year my holiday sales were really slim, and with all of the exposure for this year, im really not sure what to expect. I think it's the Aquarius in me, but what if I succeed? What if I don't sleep the entire holiday sales because I have so much to do? It would be excellent, and really terrible all in once.

So as of last Thursday, I am now living in Vancouver. I hope that I will be able to put my roots down for awhile here. I just counted, and I have moved 10 times in the last 4 years - moving in and out of Chicago, from Omaha, Rome and Vancouver. A lot of times I feel like have of my favorite things are in boxes somewhere. I was reading a Domino (isn't that magazine fabulous?) article the other day about picking colors for your apartment. One designer suggested collecting your favorite things, and that should give you a good idea of what colors to use. Your walls should accent your favorite items. As I was thinking about this, I realized that I don't really have favorite things. No little trinkets that remind me of travels or lost loves. Nothing. My possessions include my laptop, clothes, cell phone and some jewelry. I have trinkets, but they never make it with me. I think Vancouver will be a good place to start collecting these things.

Because of the move up here, I really wasn't able to take many of my supplies with me. Maybe my favorite trinket is my sewing machine - and that had to stay at home. I hope my mom makes good use out of it for awhile. I borrowed a machine from my boyfriend's sister. And, that should help iglubu get back on her feet. She's tired of being abandoned. In addition of my missing machine, I also left 99% of my fabric stash at home. I am actually pretty excited to start out fresh with iglubu. I think all of my fabric was becoming overwhelming. I've been thinking about branding a lot lately with iglubu, and now I will be able to start from scratch and build her just the way I want. There is going to be a pretty big order from equilter and reprodepot here pretty soon.

Along with the new fabric, I am also revamping a bunch of the bag styles on the site. I am not really pleased with a few of them, so its time for them to go! A bunch of my artwork is due on the 25th (for a banner ad at the fabulous Modish, and a photo for BUST) so I have to get on this stuff soon. Eep.

In other news - in January a few girls, Nicole and I started the contest website SeekIndie. It was really wonderful, and we ran 2 contests. After the last contest, it was clear that in order for the website to be really successful, we had to change something about our business model. Due to varying opinions about the future of SI, and the strain it was taking on each of us, and our businesses, we've decided to put the contest on temporary hiatus. As of right now, we are each going our separate ways.
