spool of thread

strands of a creative life

2.26.2006

This evening, I watched the closing ceremonies of the Olympics and started working on some new felt pins. Like I mentioned yesterday, I am working on a new felt pin set for the month of march. I love finding little unknown sayings and phrases. My current inspiration is about march, "in like a lion, out like a lamb". I was working on the lamb tonight, and the design just wasn't right. As of right now, I have no idea even what happened to my little ugly lamb. He was here, sitting next to me, and I think he must have caught sight of himself and ran away to hide! My felt pins are back on the agenda for next weekend's craftiness.

in the last couple of days I have fallen in love with the poise gets cozy blog. I feel weird talking about people by name without knowing about them, but Alicia has a very darling and inspirational perspective on so many things that ive been thinking about. I adore her genuine girlyness and her honesty, as many others do. I only hope to have half the blog of hers.

her post today was all about the history of her business. The ebb and flow of how things started, and ended, and how one venture led to another. Now, she co-owns a storefront while at the same time, she continues to create her designs. Alicia outlines a path much like the one I would like for myself. I am working hard on iglubu, and love doing it. In the future, I would love to see it grow to be much larger than it is today. Its my baby, and every mom wants to see their little one grow up to be big and strong. And, as my baby grows, I would love to also have my own store, so eventually, I will be able to work with iglubu everyday, and at the same time, I can work with other talented designers. On top of that, I would love to be financially stable from my little store (i think it might have to be a bit bigger then little!).

It is also part of my goal to help promote small independent businesses. In posie's post today, it also talks about shoppers who dont realize that crafty people are trying to make a living off of their creativity. Even i suffer from this. I was doing a little online window shopping today, and came across some cute things. Being a poor college kid who is also trying to start her own business, i have a hard time spending indie prices. I know the designer is very talented and deserves every penny and more, but i am afraid that many people do not. In the future, i want to support small business more and more. I would love to even cut out the big grocery store from my life, and buy from local meat markets and produce stores.

I think i need to do some more research on this. if anyone has any good info, please pass it on to me!
